I’ll gather everything here, that I learn about my ancestors the WHITEs who came from Baslow, Derbyshire in the 1600s and ended up in Liverpool in the 1800s. The story I’m writing will be added and updated as time goes on. If you are a related WHITE I’d like you to join the project too. You can do this by:

Reading, commenting and chatting with others.

I'm just re-doing this website now. It used to be run on software called WordPress - now I'm switching it over to Joomla. This way I can add in Discussion Forums, galleries and all manner of stuff.

I’ll also be endeavouring to keep the publicly viewable text in a fashion that won’t compromise any living persons. I.e; no living relatives’ details will be publicly viewable.

Thanks,
John White

Introduction

(Taken from: The Whites - Derbyshire to Liverpool. By John White 2008

According to our research to date the roots of the White line of the family run from Liverpool back to Derbyshire. We’ve had soldiers and carters, self-made businessmen and warehousemen, an employee on a country estate, a travelling salesman, Druggists XE "Druggists" and at least three consecutive generations of farmers. Throughout, there have been the expected successes and failures, the unexpected heart-breaking tragedies, plus some family mysteries waiting to be solved.

Family research can open up some dark places indeed

The Whites of Tedgness

Chapter 2 will include everything I know about the Whites who farmed at Tedgness/Tadgness in Nether Padley near Grindleford. Joseph White - who’s grave is in Baslow Churchyard had a son, Thomas White who also farmed - and possibly quarried there too.

Robert White the Gamekeeper

Robert, the Gamekeeper and Elizabeth

Our White-line, which followed from Thomas and Sarah (of the first marriage), is really put into perspective when one merely counts Thomas’ prodigious output of children and the massive geometric progression of offspring that has surely followed. We’re but one of many, many strands that have threaded down; and it’s easy to think of the enormous number of people who are distantly related to us: hundreds of them living parallel but distant lives; each unaware of the other; perhaps even working and living side by side… unbeknownst. If any of you are mathematically inclined - alas, I’m not - you might amuse yourself by working out how many relatives there might be from Thomas, Sarah and Barbara alone!
